How long does it take to complete the class?

Classes meet at Belmont High School fifteen times for two hours per class.

Does the classroom have to be completed to start behind-the-wheel lessons?

No, you can schedule drive times as soon as you have gone to one class.

Do I need a permit to start classes

No permit is required to take the driver's ed class. The student must be at least 15 and 9 months by the first day of class.

What happens if I miss a class?

Students are allowed two excused absences, which must be made up with homework about the material or information missed. Reasons for excusal are health and family emergencies only, not vacations or sports events.

Do you offer online classes?

New Hampshire does not allow online driver education classes. All classes are conducted in-person at Belmont High School.

What is your refund policy?

Deposits are non-refundable but may be credited toward a future class. If a student is not able to complete the course, refunds will be discussed on an individual basis and may be issued at Mark's Driving School's sole discretion.

How long does it take to complete driver's ed?

The completion time depends on age, scheduling flexibility, and instructor availability. Typically, each student is done with the classroom portion and behind-the-wheel lessons within eight weeks.

How old do I need to be to start driver ed?

You must be 15 and 9 months of age on or before the first regularly scheduled classroom session of the course you are enrolling in.

What are the state requirements for obtaining a learner's permit?

New Hampshire does not issue a physical learner's permit. To begin practicing driving, students must be 15 1/2 years old and be supervised (in the front seat) by a licensed NH driver who is at least 25 years old.

How long does it take to complete driver education?

Typically, driver education is completed within seven weeks. This includes 30 hours of classroom instruction, 10 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction, and 6 hours of in-car observation. The summer course meets three times per week and is typically completed in five weeks.

Behind-the-Wheel

When can I start the behind-the-wheel lessons?

You can start driving lessons anytime with a valid learner permit or driver's license. If you are under 18, you must complete one day of the driver's ed class before starting behind-the-wheel lessons.

Can I request a specific driving instructor?

Our scheduling software lets you see all available driving lessons and who is teaching them. If your preferred instructor is open, you can select them for a lesson.

Will I have the same instructor for every lesson?

Will I have other students in the car with me?

Yes, New Hampshire requires six hours of behind-the-wheel time and six hours of observation time. When you schedule a 2-hour behind-the-wheel time, one student will drive, and the other will observe.

Can I request to have lessons with a friend?

Yes, as long as the time that you sign up to go on a drive has two open availabilities, you can both go into your student center and sign up for the same drive.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my driving lesson?

Should you need to reschedule a lesson, you may do so by logging into your account on our website. You must cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a $50 late cancellation fee.

Are your instructors licensed?

Yes, each of our instructors is licensed by the state to teach classroom and behind-the-wheel training to all age groups.

How fast can I complete behind-the-wheel lessons?

This depends on your scheduling flexibility and instructor availability. You can take two 2-hour behind-the-wheel lessons each week and schedule up to two driving lessons in advance. You must have two practice days between lessons.

What safety equipment are your cars equipped with?

Our vehicles have safety features (passenger brake, passenger mirror, student driver signs, etc.) that don't come in standard cars.

How do I schedule a behind-the-wheel lesson?

Can I use my own car?

Do I need to have my own car insurance for behind-the-wheel?

No, you are covered under our commercial insurance during all behind-the-wheel training.

Do you offer home pick-up and drop-off?

All driving lessons start and end at Belmont High School.

Do you charge a cancellation fee?

If a student fails to show up for a lesson or does not cancel or reschedule on our website at least 24 hours in advance, they will be charged a $50 late cancellation fee.
